From spontaneous road trips to exploring new cultures, my life has been a tapestry of adventures. My life has been enriched by the incredible people I've met along the way. Whether through friendships or fleeting encounters, these connections have left an indelible mark on my heart and have often inspired my writing.
As I look back on my past blogs, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the experiences that have shaped my life. Each entry serves as a snapshot of my journey, filled with highs and lows, lessons learned, and personal growth.
Each story I document has taught me resilience, while my successes have reinforced the importance of perseverance. Yet this story is different, different from the rest. A story of a man, who once began as a child in poverty, rose into the world of high stakes enforcement, and then hit rock bottom, only to climb back up—not as a man of the streets with power he once held, but as a man of his family, he now protects.
It was early in the month of July in 2025 when I came to New Delhi for my new job, and that's when I met this man. I booked an auto to drop me at an address. Honestly, the conversation didn't start with his life story but rather my curiosity as I asked him about the tourist sites that came on the way or the names of the roads. He was an old man with a white beard in his early 50s. His knowledge of the local areas was quite detailed and informative, and hence, I asked him if he was a local, to which he answered no. He was from the beautiful city of Agra, but since he is always on the road driving passengers from one location to another for the past 20 years in New Delhi, he has acquired knowledge of the place quite intricately.
I asked him, 'Sir, is this what you have been doing your entire life?' He said no, and I quite casually asked him, 'What did you do before?' This is when he told me that he used to work for a businessman, someone who had a business selling alcohol in various parts of the country. He used to collect his money from various parts and deliver it back to him, at a time when there was no way of online transactions. I'm not so sure of how true his story is but at that moment, It came to my excitement when he told me he traveled the entire nation in a Mercedes, and there were times when he had been attacked as well, to which he added how victoriously he faced them. But then the business owner died, and to his loyalty, he never joined any other company and left to lead a peaceful life with his wife and two children, earning a living by driving an autorickshaw for the rest of his life.
The streets were his kingdom, a chaotic blur of neon lights, dust, and the relentless hum of a three-speed engine. For years, he lived the high-octane life of a "career" auto wala—the kind who knew every shortcut, every bribe, and every dangerous debt that came with the territory. It was a life of adrenaline and survival, where loyalty to his crew was the only law, and the stakes were as high as the midnight meter.
Then, he walked away.
He traded the thrill of the chase for the quiet rhythm of a suburban morning. He quit the "fast lane" to honor a deeper loyalty: his family. Now, his meter doesn't run for the highest bidder, but for the safety of his children and the peace of a home where the door stays unlocked. It’s a different kind of bravery—choosing the "slow road" in a world that never stops rushing. His hands are still calloused, but now they hold the weight of a peaceful future rather than the secrets of a dangerous past.

Although I don't do not have any memory of this man anymore because how short the actual conversation was but his story remained with me shaping my perspective again.
The story of the "auto wala" who chose peace over the adrenaline of his past offered me several powerful lessons for anyone navigating their own life choices:
It teaches that true power isn't found in dominance or surviving a dangerous lifestyle, but in the restraint required to walk away from it. Choosing a "boring" life for the sake of others is often harder than staying in a chaotic one. Redefining strength.
In a world that glamorizes the hustle and the "fast lane," there is a profound, overlooked dignity in a life of peace. Success isn't always a high-speed chase; sometimes, it’s just the ability to sleep soundly at night. This is where he valued quiet success.
It proves that your past does not have to be your destination. No matter how deep you are in a specific lifestyle, you always possess the autonomy to change direction, even if it means starting from zero.
As I continue to navigate this ever-evolving journey, I remain excited about what the future holds. With each new blog post, I aim to capture the essence of experiences and share them with others, hoping to inspire and connect with readers.
